So I wanted to make a really outlandish alien that could still be personable enough to be regarded as a friend ally race. First of all they are from a planet that revolves around a dense and warm, but dim, white dwarf. This gives their planet low gravity, high temperatures and low light. Only the tiniest organisms can survive by photosynthesis alone, so there are no conventional plants. Instead, organism are motile and eat others as well as photosynthetic, like Euglena. These guys are sentient and cool. The reason they evolved on land is because the oceans are so warm there was not enough dissolved CO2 to keep the photosynthetic process going, so they evolved nostrils. However, they are still amphibious and their eggs and larva need water to grow. It was really hard for me not to make these guys super colorful as seen in the process pics, but on a world were you can’t see and you need as much light energy as possible it just doesn’t make sense. Plus I figured the best photoreceptor, retinol (aka the stuff in our eyes) would be black to absorb all the light it can on a dim planet. Also, since these guys just release they sex cells in the water they don’t need a mating display or sexual dimorphism. They all take care of the cute little larva though. So yeah that’s their lives. If they went off world they would need CO2 canisters and another gas to keep them from falling over in the greater gravity. In a place with a bright sun like Earth their instinct would be to lay down and catch all the rays they can, which if they can get over that they can move a lot faster with all the excess energy.

These guys are really cool! You put a ton of thought into them and it really shows.
